    Union: Firefighter/Paramedic
    Local:
City, State/Province Country: Valencia, ca USA
Comments: My Name is John Hicks. I am a Firefighter/Paramedic in Los Angeles. I am also one of the authors and the publisher for a book entitled "First Responders Handbook of Humor." It is directed towards law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical technicians that are America's first responders. Being the best trained, and provided with the latest in high tech equipment, they are the elite in their professions; recognized around the world as leaders in their fields. However, being the best does come at a high cost. Along with the shining reputations comes the dark side of the job; the long hours away from home, the hectic training schedules, and let's not forget the day to day operations of dealing with the emergencies that most people are running away from while they are running in. And while most won't admit it, there is one danger though that even they are not prepared to deal with--"Stress. However, don't fear, for help is just a turn of the page away. And, it comes in the shape of a book written to address this particular problem! The First Responders Handbook of Humor goes above and beyond the call of duty providing the foundation for stress relief. Not only was this book written by fellow first responders, it was also written in an easy to read and understand format, providing a valuable learning tool to deal with stress, less any psychobabble or legalese. In this book, first reponders will be provided with the necessary information to help balance out the stress in your life. Plus, you also will get the extra added bonus of enjoying over 150 humorous stories and other fun things provided by first responders across the country. If you can, please take the time to visit my website www.QuietManPublishing.com . I believe this could be a valuable tool for all first reponders for reducing the stress in thier lives. For any questions or bulk sales, please feel free to contact me at 661-373-4886, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Any help in spreading the news would be appreciated, Sincerely, John Hicks

Comments: I had the great pleasure of testing to become a firefighter with the City of Charlotte. I would like to thank your members that stood by and answered any questions the candidates had. They were all very imformative. Unfortunetly I did not get hired in Charlotte, but shortly after testing I did get hired in my home town. So I guess I would also like to thank your members and department in part for preparing me for other tests. JD

Comments: An issue for the future. The seatbelt alarm level in decibels measures 115db. The organization called NIOSH advise exposure to this level of noise should be limited to 15 seconds a day. I hope something is done in the future to address the protection of our hearing. Mine is already gone. Be safe. john

Comments: Let members rest assured, during the city budget process, CFFA has maintained involvement in the political arena. Initially, there was a shared forecast of doom and gloom, but into discussions, we realized it would be in our best interests to work quietly with our political friends. We have done just that, and will continue to do so, unless reasons arise to adjust otherwise.

Comments: My crew has questions regarding what the department will and will not cover in educational expenses. There is some confusion as to which school's tuition the fire department will cover. The City of Charlotte is promoting some on-line colleges that the fire department does not supposedly support. Could this issue be clarified?

Comments: Dear Fire fighters, We had a great adventure with you yesterday. We were sorry that we didn't get to go on the truck. Maybe next time... Michael would like to be a hungry fire fighter so that he can cook for you in the kitchen. Alexandrya didn't know that you had a living room. She would like to play pool with you sometime. Jordan would like to know what you have to do to become a figher fighter. Do you have to go to college? Do you have to pass a test? We would also like to know where to get the stickers to put on our windows to let you know where we sleep. Do you know? Thanks again, Kindergarten Angels

Comments: Dear Fire Fighters, We loved your pictures on your website. We also loved coming to your fire station yesterday. We learned a lot! Thomas' favorite part was when you slid down the pole. Tierra's favorite part was seeing where you slept (in the beds). Dannice loved sitting on the fire fighter's lap in the truck. Chelsea liked seeing where you cook and that big frying pan and stove. Mason liked the 911 center with all the computers. We will all learn our address so that we will be prepared for an emergency. Thank you again so much! Love, Ms. Flach's Kindergartners (Irwin Ave. Elem.)
